The family title "Sibie" has the meaning "The Lord Master" and was bestowed upon him by the town's inhabitants. With his business acumen, Al-Sayyed Ahmed soon became a prominent and respected business man throughout the Arabian Peninsula, dealing in shipping and other commodities. He went on to become the Chairman of the Merchants Board of Yanbu. |

Al-Sayyed Ahmed Ashour Al-Sibie had 16 children, but tragically due to a smallpox and plague epidemic in the area at that time, only 2 survived. In the early 20th Century, Ahmed passed away leaving a flourishing business to his 2 sons, Abdullah and Khalaf. The eldest son, Abdullah was only 10 years old at the time, and because of this, the business was managed by relatives on his behalf. At the age of 26, Abdullah took control of the business, establishing it as a major business concern and immediately diversified into the automotive and electricity industries, moving into flour mills in Yanbu among other ventures. |

Following his father's footsteps, Al-Sayyed Abdullah Ashour was elected the Chairman of the Merchants Board of Yanbu, and later in 1945, was elected Mayor of Yanbu. During his 18 years as Mayor of Yanbu, his plans for inward development resulted in a small town becoming a thriving city, with substantial growth in roads, civic and electricity amenities and commerce. Recognizing the need to concentrate on managing his business Abdullah Ashour resigned as the Mayor of Yanbu. A rapidly expanding Saudi Arabian market meant that Abdullah Ashour had to move his business to Jeddah. He again diversified the business moving this time into real estate, and construction of both infrastructure and private ventures. |

Within a year, the group acquired the franchise for
General Motors in the Western Province of Saudi Arabia, which encompassed
the main centers of Jeddah, Makkah and Medina. Further diversification
saw incursion into the import/export and fashion markets. Very soon, The
Sibie Group became a powerful name in the automotive, real estate, fashion
and construction industries employing a total of 2000 employees. 1994 saw
the passing of Al-Sayyed Abdullah Ashour Al-Sibie, leaving the business to
his 2 sons Dr. Ahmed Ashour Al-Sibie (Director General, King Fahd
Hospital) and Adbul Hamid Ashour Al-Sibie, the Chairman and Managing
Director of the group. |
